The Wellness Center is open for use during all hours that the YMCA is in operation. Anyone who is 14 years of age or older may use the Wellness Center. Youth ages 11-13 must complete an orientation and the Youth Strength Training Class in order to use the Wellness Center. Upon completion of these requirements, youth must be supervised by a parent/guardian or be part of an after school exercise program where an instructor is present. (No children younger than 11 are allowed in the Wellness Center for safety reasons.) New members of the YMCA can receive an orientation and three free, one-hour personal training sessions (please contact the WC staff to arrange times and dates). Staff in the Wellness Center are equipped to test: Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Flexibility, Target Heart Rate, Percentage of Body Fat and Blood Pressure.
Health & Fitness Training Programs
The Wellness Center Staff can help you with a variety of workout routines to help you meet your goals. The following programs are available and may be accomplished individually or as part of a team or group of exercisers.
Personal Training
New members receive three 1 – hour personal training sessions with Fitness Staff to ensure a sound knowledge of equipment operation. See a staff member for additional assistance.
Youth Weight Training
This is a required course for youth ages 11 – 13 who want to be permitted to exercise in the Wellness Center. After completion of this course, youth may use the Wellness Center but are required to be supervised by a parent or guardian (Children under 11 are not permitted in the center). Youth receive an Orientation and two additional training sessions that teach the value of exercise, an in-depth look at the major muscle groups, equipment terms and usage for resistance machines and free weights, healthy diet and general safety precautions.
Circuit Training
The Fitness Staff will tailor a circuit training routine to suit your goals using either resistance machines or free weights and will be available to monitor and assist you as necessary.
Interval Training
The Fitness Staff will tailor an interval routine to suit your goals using single or multiple pieces of cardio equipment and will be available to monitor and assist you as necessary.
Advanced Resistance Training Techniques
When you are ready for a more advanced workout, the Fitness Staff will tailor a routine to help you meet your goals. This workout will change the number of repetitions, sets and weights to assist in increasing your strength, endurance or both.
Flexibility Training
Ensure a good flexibility plan in your weekly routine. Learn new and innovated ways to stretch plus use some ‘classic’ stretches that have been favorites for years.
Sports Conditioning
Continue last season’s efforts, get a head start on next season’s competition, or just break the plateau with these sport specific exercises. You name the game and we will provide a workout that is challenging and fun. Learn to use plyometrics to increase fast-twitch (Type IIA) muscle fibers.
