ADULT PROGRAMS

At the Y, sports and recreational activities are something special. Too often we lose that as we get older.  Friendly competition (even with yourself), lots of variety and a supportive environment means team sports and recreation is fun again, and it makes for a healthier lifestyle and a good story or two.

TAI CHI

Thursday nights Oct. 5th – Dec. 21 7–8PM
Instructor: Brenda Foster

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese  movement designed to improve health and longevity. Often  referred to as moving meditation, Tai Chi is a martial art that  resembles slow graceful movements that keep your body in constant motion. It can be traced back to Taoist and Buddhist monasteries and has evolved over centuries to increase strength, improve balance, fitness, flexibility and mental focus. It is also helpful in reducing pain and depression. “Tai chi increases cognitive and mental functions and mindfulness. It also promotes social interaction because it is often practiced in a group setting. The social aspect  of Tai chi is incredibly powerful, which helps with the enjoyment. People really like it. “ -2017 Harvard Gazette
